The Full-Time Engineer
Hi, my name is Badoosh. I have been a full-time corporate engineer for almost a year, and I enjoy my job. I take pride in my work and do get some fulfillment from it. However, I still feel like something is missing.
That thing is creativity. I love spending my time getting lost in different things–video games, movies, projects. However, for the past few years, I haven't really been able to do that. I can't manage to spend more than thirty minutes on any one activity, so I've never really been able to scratch that itch.
Before I started college, I felt like I was able to do anything. One day I was getting invested in a video game; the next, I was competing in a science competition. In between that, I would find time to run dozens of miles each week.
As soon as I started college, it felt like I lost that. All of a sudden, my time was spent taking classes and working to pay for those classes. When I did have some free time, I was probably passed out in bed, waiting to restart the whole process the next day. I always told myself that I'd be able to get back to my hobbies once I graduated.
It's been exactly one year since I've graduated–and that didn't really happen. The reality of working adult life is that it takes a bit of effort and planning to get some free time. However, I do think I'm ready to make that effort to do the things I love outside of work.
I really miss my hobbies, and I'm writing this blog to remind myself of all the different things I used to love doing. This has nothing to do with side-hustles, building a brand, or making money. The only thing I want to do is use my free time to do the things that I enjoy and document that here.
Using this blog, my goal is to show other people in my position that it is possible to still maintain a meaningful work-life balance. I will write about what activities I get up to outside of my 9–5, and how I’m able to fit them in throughout the week. If that sounds interesting, I hope you continue to read my future posts.
I don’t have a set schedule for when I’ll upload at this time. I’m just starting this endeavor, and I’m going to do whatever it takes to see it come true.
